Medium Shot

A medium shot is known for being a “sweet spot” at medium distance of an object or person, allowing viewers to oversee how the subject interacts with the surrounding environment. It’s often used for back and forth dialogue and allows viewers to see every character in focus as well as objects in the space. This shot is most commonly found in sitcoms or scenes that are comedic and informal. They aren’t used in particularly serious moments as these shots evoke normality and comfort, these shots tell you that everything is alright, setting up calm before calamity or to pull you into that same state of relaxation.
