High-Angle

A high angle shot is when a camera at an elevated position points down at the subjects below. This is a cinematographic technique where the camera makes the subject seem weak and vulnerable. This is frequently used in horror films as they make the monster seem bigger and more entitled to the victim below. High angle shots can also depict danger, depression and belittling. They make the subject seem smaller and powerless compared to whatever they are facing, whether it may be a person of authority, unknown monster or a metaphorical manifestation of their own weakness or depression.
